Fair-to-mediocre beers. The tasting room is at the corner of Murphys Grade Road. and (lower) French Gulch Road, three miles outside of Angels Camp CA. It's been more than five years since I've had the opportunity to taste Murphys Creek beers, and the new brewers insist that they've made great improvements, so give them a try.

Black enough. Thin head. Very black aroma. Thick, black, sweet.

    • Date: May 22, 1994 (#341)
      Package: draught
      Place: Lyon's Brewery, Dublin CA
      Score: 11 points
      Overall Impression (2)
Dark red-amber. Thick white head. Too dark. Earthy aroma. WAY too much black malt. Smooth, clean, but out of style.

  • Light American Wheat Beer with Yeast
    • Date: February 6, 1995 (#766)
      Package: draught
      Place: The Depot, Concord CA
      Score: 12½ points
      Overall Impression (2½)
Golden...I think. (All the lighting in here is loud neon...not one white incandescent bulb in the place.) Thin head. Hoppy aroma. Bitter hoppy flavor, wheat follows.

  • American-Style India Pale Ale
    • Date: April 25, 1995 (#885)
      Package: draught
      Place: The HopYard, Pleasanton CA
      Score: 12½ points
      Overall Impression (2½)
Amber, clear, thin head, OK carbonation. Herbal-vegetal nose. Thick, malty. OK balance, but seriously underhopped for an IPA.
